Title: Blind

Summary: Ueda starts getting blind, he goes under a surgery but it fails and Ueda loose his vision he gets really depressed and cries all the time (in the hospital). After a week or so, the doctors suggest making another surgery that might be the only and last change for Ueda to get his vision back. He goes through it and it succeeds, after two days, he can take off the bandage and walk out of the hospital happily…

 

Ueda started to see a little blurred in his left eye one morning, he thought it was just because he was sleepy and nothing important, soon after it disappeared and he forgot all about it.

At lunch time when he were about to grab his can of soda, he missed with over ten inches, Ueda didn’t get what was wrong; luckily nobody notice it and the rest of the day went by fairly easy.

The next day, he met with low headaches and more tired than usual, one day he took Kame outside to get some help.

 “You’re head hurts?” Asked Kame looking concerned at Ueda, Ueda nodded shyly “and sometimes my left eye gets really blurry, I-I don’t know what is wrong…”

“Maybe you are just a little tired,”

“Maybe…”

“Take rest of the day off and go early to bed, call my in the morning if it hadn’t got any better, nyaa?”

“Okay, thanks Kame.”

Kame smiled his warm smile; Ueda took a cap home and went to bed.

Unfortunately the symptoms hadn’t got any better, they got slightly worse each day, the headaches became much worse and made him damage the dance-lessons really bad, the manager kept yelling at him about pulling himself together and concentrate, luckily Junno sore that something was wrong with Ueda and pulled him aside after practice.

“Are you all right?” Junno looked really concerned at Ueda, Ueda looked down, didn’t know what to say.

“You can tell me anything,” Ueda looked up into those big brown eyes, he could feel himself blushing.

“…In these past days I’ve become more tired and gets often headaches… And also it’s getting hard for me to see with my left eye, I-I’m afraid that it’s something bad.”

“Is it because of not enough sleep?”

“No! I sleep more than I’m suppose to.”

“…Lets go to the hospital, maybe they can help us.” Junno began pulling Ueda to his car, but he struggled lightly; Junno knew Ueda didn’t feel good about the hospital, but it was the only way to know if he was all right or not.

“What is your name again?” Asked a woman that stood with a little table writing notes.

“U-Ueda Ta-Tatsuya.”

”Okay, please wait inside this room and the doctor will soon be here.”

She left Junno and Ueda sitting in a little white room, waiting for the doctor.

“Okay Ueda-kun, I will take a few test to see if everything is okay…”

Junno waited anxious for the answers in the waiting room with Ueda. Half an hour later came Dr. Takasu over to them with a piece of paper, he looked very concerned, and Ueda waited the worst.

“I don’t really know how to say this… It seems like Ueda-kun’s vision is failing rapidly on his left eye and will soon repeat on the right. I don’t know what coursed it or if we can cure it or not.”

“Wh-What?” Ueda got really scared, “am I going blind?”

“Yes you are and we only have one option; you’re going to stay on the hospital and we are going to make some more tests before we decide what to do.”

“Can it get cured?” Junno wanted to know; he wanted to know if Ueda really was going to get blind or not.

“We don’t know yet, he’ll need to stay at the hospital in a week or so before we can say anything. Please follow me Ueda-kun, we’ll need to make some tests now…”

Junno grabbed Ueda’s arm, looking concerned and lost, Ueda pushed him lightly away “I’m going to be okay, th-they are just going to make a few test.”

“You can call some of his friends and tell them about him, they can come later and see to him.” Said the doctor and showed Ueda down the hall; Junno got left behind, alone and lost. Finally he got himself pulled together to pick up his cell phone and call the other members.

 

They decided to come and visit Ueda later that night, after the doctor had made the tests.

They found Ueda sitting in a bed; he made a wide smile when he sores his friends.

”Hey Ueda! How are you?” Asked Junno.

“Please tell the doctor that I’m fine-“ Ueda jumped out of the bed and walked over to the door; before the members could stop him, he had walked into the wall, missed the door with over a meter.

Ueda puts his hands on the wall, looking confusing; he rubbed his forehead and tried to find the door.

The doctor came into the room and helped Ueda into the bed again, “Ueda-kun, you cannot walk around like that, you’re going to hurt yourself.”

Ueda sat on the bed again looking scared, “I-I cannot s-see, I’m g-getting blind…”

Junno came over and gave Ueda a hug, trying to comfort his best friend as well as he could, Ueda began sobbing in Junno’s embrace.

“No your not, its going to go away after a while, right?” He looked over at the doctor.

“I’m afraid not, it looks like Ueda-kun’s vision a growing worse everyday; his left eye is so bad that it confuses the other eye with inaccurate information. In the end, he will go blind.”

Ueda began shaking hard and began crying; Junno padded lightly Ueda on the back, trying to comfort him.

The doctor continued, “but we might have one choice; we can go and make a surgery on his eyes…”

“Will he be curried then?” Asked Kame.

“We don’t know, it is a very rare condition your friend is in, we haven’t seen it before, but with the surgery, he might get cured.”

“What is the change for that?” Asked Junno, Ueda looked up and the doctor sighted.

“40%”

Ueda looked down.

“But what if it works?” Asked Junno.

“Then he will get his vision back after a few days.” The members nodded.

“I’ll leave you to decide it, till tonight.” Dr. Takasu went out of the room; there was silence between the members for a long time.

“What do you want to do Ueda?” Asked Kame, Ueda looked up, looking lost and pale.

“I-I don’t k-know…”

“It isn’t much percent, but if you don’t take the surgery, you’ll get blind anyway.” Said Jin.

“We actually don’t have anything to loose.” Said Koki.

“You don’t, but I have…” muttered Ueda.

“What do you want to do Ueda?” Asked Junno.

“I think I-I want to take t-the surgery…”

The others agreed.

KAT-TN sat in Junno’s apartment, anxious to hear how the surgery went.

The phone rang, Junno jumped up and grabbed the phone.

“Hello?”

“J-Jun?”  Junno’s hearth jumped.

“Ueda! How did it go?”

“I-I…” He could hear Ueda cry in the other end of the phone.                      

“I-It didn’t w-work, it f-failed…”

Junno could feel his hearth stop; the surgery… failed?

“Well…? What happened?” Asked Jin and went over to Junno; tears formed in his eyes, Jin padded him on the back, “are Ueda okay?”

Junno shook his head “it failed.”

“W-What?”

KAT-TN looked at each other, “what should we do?” Asked Maru.

“I’ll go over to the hospital, Ueda needs somebody with him, “ said Junno.

Junno knocked on the door, opening it slowly and looked around in the room.

It was dark outside, only a table-lamp was on; a person sat in the bed with bandage around his head covering his eyes.

 ”Ueda?”

Ueda looked shocked up, turning to the direction of the sound, his voice were shaking, “w-who is it?”

Junno came over and sat on the bed, touching Ueda lightly on the cheek.

“J-Jun?” Ueda could feel the warm fingers on his face; he could feel the tears coming up, but couldn’t get out because of the bandage; he took his hands and tried to find where Junno was.

Junno grabbed Ueda’s hands and gave them a kiss; Ueda blushed lightly and began sobbing.

“It’s going to be okay, I’m here…” Junno pulled Ueda into a hug.

After a long time, Ueda had calmed and Junno laid him soft in the bed.

“You need to get some sleep, everything is going to be okay tomorrow.”

“J-Jun?” Ueda grabbed Junno’s arm afraid to be left alone; Junno smiled, he loved when Ueda called him ‘Jun’, it was only him who could call him that.

“Its okay, I’m coming again tomorrow, get some sleep.” He kissed Ueda on the forehead and placed Ueda’s cold hands on his chest.

A few minutes later Junno could hear Ueda’s calm breath and knew he was asleep, he quietly left the room and make sure to close the door as silenced as possible.

The doctor moved Ueda’s bandage the next day, just when Junno came into the room.

“Ah, Taguchi-kun! You come just in time, you can help Ueda-kun.”

“W-What do you mean?”

“I’m sorry, we couldn’t do anything, we need to hope for the best now.”

He left Ueda and Junno alone in the room.

Ueda slowly opened his eyes, they were gray and cloudy; they couldn’t see anything.

There was silence between the two, Junno didn’t know what to say, and suddenly he heard lightly footsteps and looked up.

Ueda stood up and had begun walking over to Junno’s direction holding his hands in front of him to guide the way.

“Ueda!” Junno grabbed Ueda’s cold and pale hands, Ueda placed his hands on Junno’s face, touching every inch of his face; Junno closed his eyes enjoying Ueda’s touch.

Suddenly they were gone and were replaced with a sobbing sound, he looked up and sore tears streaming down Ueda’s beautiful face.

“Ueda!”

“I-I cannot s-see you anymore…”

Junno pulled Ueda into a hug and could feel his new shirt getting wet he didn’t care about it.

“It’s going to be okay…”

“No it’s not! I cannot work anymore!”

“Yes you can.”

“How? I cannot see, dance, or write; how am I suppose to do anything now?”

“Listen!” Junno pulled Ueda away and looked directly at him.

“You can still sing and that’s the most important thing, I’ll help you!”

Ueda pushed Junno away and cried harder than before, he screamed at Junno.

“NO! I’m just going to hold you back, and I’m sure Johnny don’t want a blind person to sing for him!”

“Ueda…”

“NO! Leave me alone!”

Junno tried to hold Ueda but he got pushed away, hard, Ueda pushed him over to the door.

“Leave me! Just…” Ueda rested his head on Junno’s chest, sobbing and grabbing tight around his shirt.

“I don’t want to hold you back… please… leave…”

“Ueda…”

“Leave!”

Junno nodded and went out, leaving the fragile Ueda alone in the hospital room.

Junno hadn’t gone visiting Ueda the last days, he was too afraid and scared to make Ueda more upset than before; the other members had went a few times but Ueda didn’t want to see them.

RING

Junno grabbed with a sigh his cell phone.

“Moshi moshi?”

“Taguchi-kun? It’s Dr. Takasu.“

“Yes? Is something wrong?”

“Yes, we are very concerned about Ueda-kun; we need to talk about a psychologist.”

“WHAT?”

“He doesn’t eat and sleep, and he always cry himself to sleep; it’s going over his mental and physics. It’s getting worse every day, I’m afraid that his body cannot take it anymore.”

“S-So you will sent him to a psychologist?”

“Yes, a place where he cannot hurt himself, and maybe be able to get well again. But we first need somebody close to him, to sign and agree with our decision.”

 “No.”

“W-What?”

“I said no, I don’t want to send Ueda to a psycogorly or whatever you call it!”

“It’s maybe the only way to make Ueda well again, please consider it.”

“There’s nothing to consider. I’ve heard about last time Ueda went there, it freaked him out! It’s going to destroy him this time.”

“Then we cannot do anything more for him…”

“A-Are you sure? Is there nothing to do?”

“We’re not sure, we’ll have to wait; but he’ll never get better if he doesn’t stop being…stressed…”

“Okay, I understand. I’ll come over right away.”

“Thank you.”

Junno stood in front of Ueda’s room, consider walking away or staying.

Finally he decided and knocked on the door; he slowly opened the door and looked inside.

It was totally dark inside the room, not even the table-lamp was on; he slowly moved inside the room, closing the door behind him.

He could see Ueda’s fragile body in the corner of the room, beside the bed, he slowly moves over to him.

Ueda got scared and tried to move to safety but the wall blocked his way, Junno moved slowly forward, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Ueda pushes it off and with a shaking voice ”w-who is it?”

Junno pulls Ueda into a hug and begin crying hardly; “Ueda!”

Ueda doesn’t move, keeping the same position for a long time; letting Junno calm down.

Somehow he didn’t mind that Junno hugged him, being that close; it had been a long time since he had been close to anybody; he missed the warmth from another body.

Somebody that could make him warm and make him feel warm inside, away from the darkness that surrounded him.

Junno finally pulled himself together and looked up, into those gray eyes.

“U-Ueda… I’m so sorry.”

“F-For what?”

“For everything!”

“You didn’t do anything…”

“I-If I just had been able to protect you… if just I could have protected you more.”

“…”

Junno stood up and went over to the bed, turning on the little lamp; the light lighted up the dark room, Ueda looked up, noticing a little more warm in the room,

“What is it?”

Junno went over and helped Ueda up, smiling widely, Ueda looked confused.

“You cannot live in the darkness forever.”

“Jun…”

“I turned on the light, its much more nice now, and you can see much more now.”

“…Jun…”

“Now we can see a lot more things than before-“

“JUN!”

Junno looked up, seeing Ueda stand with tears in his eyes.

“That’s the problem! I cannot see! How am I able to see all the good things, when I cannot see? I cannot even see when you turn the light on, everything around me is totally dark.”

“Ueda, I’m going to help you, if you just let me.”

“H-How?”

“Look, even if you can’t see, you can still live on and move forward!”

“Really?”

“Yes! Come, we’ll take one step at a time; first you’ll need to walk and use the walls as a support…”

 

With Junno’s help, Ueda got quickly used to walk on his own and do other stuff too.

KA-TN came often to visit Ueda and helped him as well as they could; to Ueda, they were all a great support to him, soon, he could see that even when he couldn’t see, there was still light in his life and it made it much easier when he had Jun and the others to help him.

Weeks later, Dr. Takasu came over to Ueda’s apartment one afternoon; they were all surprised to see him.

“Dr. Takasu! What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to see how it goes with Ueda-kun.

Ueda came over, guiding by the entrance wall, and bowed.

“Hello Dr. Takasu.”

The doctor bowed again and smiled, “you look good, can I come in for a second?”

“Yes, sure!”

They all (KAT-TUN and the Dr.) sat down in the couches in the living room, Maru came in with tea and coffee.

“What is it?” Junno was curious, last time Dr. Takasu came was for over a week ago.

“We’ve made some more tests about Ueda-kun’s eye…”

“So…?”

“We’ve maybe found a way to cure his eyes.”

“WHAT?” Ueda was shocked; he’d never expect to get his vision back again.

“We’ve found something in his eye, that has caused his blindness, and we can maybe fix it… with a surgery.”

“That’s gr-“

“What do you mean by maybe?” Asked Junno.

“We cannot guarantee that it will work, but there is a pretty great change for it to work…”

“How much?”

“85%”

“I want to do it!”

“Are you sure Ueda?”

“Yes! Why?”

“Because, I’m afraid that you will not be able to handle the disappointment one more time…”

“…I’ve decided, and I want to go through it; no matter what.”

“Okay, please come over to the hospital tomorrow so we can make the surgery.” The doctor bowed and left the apartment.

Ueda went through the surgery and could take the bandage off after a few days; then, the day had come…

Dr. Takasu took slowly the bandage off Ueda’s eyes; KAT-TN waited behind him, anxious to hear the results.

Finally, he had taken off the bandage, Ueda kept his eyes closed, afraid to open them and see darkness yet again.

“It’s okay Ueda, I’m here.” Junno went over and took Ueda’s hand; he nodded and opened slowly his eyes.

“Well…?”

Ueda looked around, seemed to be in his own world, he grabbed tightly Junno’s hand and turned around, facing him.

“Ju-Jun?”

Junno could see the light in Ueda’s eyes; he laughed and asked, “Can you see me?”

Ueda jumped into a big hug with Junno, “YES!”

KA-TN laughed seeing Ueda happy again, and had got his vision back again.

“Just take it easy the first days, then you should be cured.” Said the doctor and went out of the room, leaving KAT-TUN alone, happy.

Ueda hugged single members and thanked them for their help and support.

Junno left out a little tear, so did Ueda.

“KAWAII!”

“Huh?”

“You cry!” Grinned Jin.

“So?” Sniffed Junno, everybody laughed.

“Crying Monkey!” Laughed Ueda, Junno turned around, facing Ueda.

“What did you say?” He began tickling Ueda.

“Do you know what this means?” Asked Kame.

“No, what?”

“PARTY!”
